Construction of the first building at the Port of Hirtshals' land expansion

The first building at the Port of Hirtshals' new land expansion is under construction and will soon be finished, and this is even before the land expansion itself is complete. The building is to contain new customs facilities for the shipping company Fjord Line, which together with new check in facilities will provide the shipping company with larger capacity.

Currently, more than 50 % of the new business areas are reserved for new and existing companies, and the port continues to receive new enquiries. The infrastructure, which includes new road facilities on the land expansion, is expected to be ready for use during the summer of 2016.

The Port of Hirtshals' technical manager Peter Ydesen says:
- The port expansion is proceeding according to plan, and we have now reached another milestone with the construction of the first building on the new land area. Other milestones have been the establishment of the breakwater and the fill up of sand, but the building work is a sign that we are reaching the last step of the project. We look forward to welcome new companies and users to the new port area.

Also, the Port of Hirtshals has just received the permit for the establishment of a 35,000 m² sediment basin at the land expansion. The sediment basin will be used to deposit materials that are dredged from the port basins, and eventually the sediment basin can be used for further business areas at the port expansion. In total, the Port of Hirtshals has increased the existing port area with 30 %.
