Ferry berth 4 at the Port of Hirtshals

The Port of Hirtshals has just started the rebuilding of Trailerkajen to Ferry berth 4. Currently, there is a fixed ramp, but with Fjord Line's investment in a new and larger catamaran, which will replace HSC "Fjord Cat", an expansion and a more flexible ferry berth are necessary.

In March 2020, Fjord Line will deploy a new catamaran between Hirtshals and Kristiansand. The new catamaran is longer, wider and has greater machine power than HSC "Fjord Cat", which since 2010 has sailed the route during the summer season. With the new catamaran, Fjord Line can extend the season, while there will also be capacity for lorries.

The rebuilding of the Ferry berth 4 will be divided into two stages. The first stage is currently in its initial stage and will be completed in early April to make room for the HSC "Fjord Cat" and the summer cruise. In connection with the first stage, the concrete constructions will be carried out. Stage 2 will be started next winter, where the focus mainly will be on the steel constructions, which includes the bridge flap, ramps and passenger facilities.

The rebuilding of Ferry berth 4 has a tight schedule. Technical Manager at the Port of Hirtshals, Peter Ydesen, says:
- Since HSC "Fjord Cat" only sails during the summer season, we have the opportunity to carry out the first part of the construction work during the winter period, and thus do not affect the operation. However, this also means that we work within a very tight schedule to ensure that we do not affect the start-up.

The new ferry berth is made wider and a bridge flap is installed, and thus the new Ferry berth 4 will be a more flexible ferry berth, which also makes it possible for other vessels to call.
