Denmark's first subsidy-free wind park will be located at the Port of Hirtshals

Four Vestas V136-4.2 MW turbines will during 2019 give the Port of Hirtshals a new profile; both in terms of a reduced climate impact and their visibility on the waterfront.

Hirtshals Havnefond's wind turbine project at the Port of Hirtshals is special because it is the first project of its kind in Denmark to be realised on purely merchant market terms. The four Vestas V136 turbines at the Port of Hirtshals are thereby the first turbines in Denmark to be installed subsidy-free. This shows that renewable energy has entered a new era.

Hirtshals Havnefond, who's behind the installation of the four wind turbines on rented ground at the port, has just signed a contract with Vestas for the delivery of the turbines, which are planned to be put into operation later this year. The energy production from the four wind turbines is expected to compose a larger production than other similar wind turbines because Hirtshals is one of the places in Denmark with the highest wind resources. Therefore, it is also expected that the economy in the wind turbines will be similarly good.

Behind the installation of the wind turbines is Hirtshals Havnefond, which is established by a number of companies and private individuals in Hirtshals with the aim of developing projects within renewable energy. With the establishment of the foundation it has been a crucial factor, that the wind turbine project and the economy of the project both are rooted locally in Hirtshals. This has also become the result of the local effort, which in 2019 will take shape with the installation of the four wind turbines.

By the signing of the agreement with Vestas the chairman of Hirtshals Havnefond, Jens Peter Lunden said:
- We have been through a very intense process, but we have the whole way through had a close and constructive cooperation with Vestas about the development of the wind turbine project. Therefore, the wind turbine project is also technologically at the forefront, and this has made the work with the project even more exciting. The next step is to install the wind turbines and it will be a new phase that draws on other resources. When we are a number of people who enter and establish Hirtshals Havnefond and spend money and resources on its work, it is fundamentally because we want to develop Hirtshals and strengthen our position in Denmark.

The four Vestas V136 wind turbines will have a total energy production corresponding to the energy consumption in 14,250 households. In comparison with this, there are about 2,000 households and a series of energy-intensive companies with a significant energy consumption in Hirtshals.

Chairman of the Port of Hirtshals, Anker Laden-Andersen says in connection with Hirtshals Havnefond's signing of the agreement with Vestas and entering into lease agreements with the port:
- It has been interesting to follow the wind turbine project from the sideline, and it is therefore satisfying to see that Hirtshals Havnefond has now reached an important milestone. Naturally, it is also comforting to know that the wind turbine project has the backing from and anchoring in the town of Hirtshals. We can only see it as an expression of the close relation between town and port.

The installation of the four wind turbines on Østhavnen at the Port of Hirtshals will be launched during March, when excavation for foundations and casting works will begin. The foundation must be ready for installation of the wind turbines in the autumn. However, already in the early summer Østhavnen will be characterised by the excavations for the cables between the wind turbines and the transformer station.

During the following months the process of selling the turbine shares to citizens living within a distance of 4.5 kilometres from the wind turbines will be initiated by Hirtshals Havnefond. Hirtshals Havnefond will ensure the greatest possible visibility of the sale of shares, so that as many as possible in Hirtshals and the area around the town will have the opportunity to buy a share.
