The Port of Hirtshals signs agreement of cooperation with the Port of Zeebrugge

In connection with the Belgian royal couple's visit to Denmark 28-30 March, the Port of Hirtshals and the Port of Zeebrugge signed an agreement of cooperation, which is to strengthen the relations between the two ports. Also, the agreement is to form the basis for a development of joined business opportunities, and a strategic cooperation between the ports. CEO at the Port of Zeebrugge Joachim Coen and chairman of the board at the Port of Hirtshals Anker Laden-Andersen signed the agreement at a ceremony for the royal visit to Copenhagen.

On 16 February 2016, the shipping company CLdN opened a direct service between Zeebrugge and Hirtshals, and today a year after, the service has shown its worth and is becoming more and more visible in the transport sector. CLdN's service between Zeebrugge og Hirtshals offers the industry in Scandinavia and western Europe a transport solution, and the result is a competitive and efficient shortsea transport, which can help relieve the pressure on the European motorway network and limit climate change.

The service between Zeebrugge and Hirtshals provides Zeebrugge with a turntable in Scandinavia, which strengthens the port's shortsea network in Europe. Likewise, the service connects the Port of Hirtshals to the global network of overseas services that call at the Port of Zeebrugge. CLdN's service has a potential as a feeder service, which efficiently connects Norway, Sweden and Northern Jutland with the port in Zeebrugge and the global network. Furthermore, the Port of Hirtshals is now connected to England via the port in Zeebrugge.

CEO at the Port of Zeebrugge Joachim Coens says after the signing:
- The signing of the cooperation agreement is a significant development in our commercial cooperation with the Port of Hirtshals. By strengthening the ties between our two ports, we can now increase the cargo flow between the ports and thereby increase the cargo volume.

Chairman of the board for the Port of Hirtshals Anker Laden-Andersen says in connection with Joachim Coens state-ment:
- The strategic cooperation, which has been made clear with this agreement, will strengthen the opportunities for efficient commercial cooperation. We see great potentials in the direct shortsea connection and the opening that has now been made for cooperation between the business clusters in Zeebrugge and Hirtshals.
