French delegation visited the Port of Hirtshals

On October 12 2017, a French delegation comprising of twelve fishermen were visiting the Port of Hirtshals. The purpose of the visit was to give the French an insight into the processes in the Danish fishing industry.

During the visit at the Port of Hirtshals, the French fishermen visited among others Fiskeauktion Nord - Hirtshals (the fish auction in Hirtshals), Brdr. Schlies Fiskeeksport (fish exporter) and met Jesper Bundgaard Madsen from Vendelbo Spedition (shipping agency) which all together gave the French guests an idea about the processes in the Danish fishing industry.

Consultant John Christian Aasted, who assisted during the visit could during the visit recount about the French's fascination of the businesses' activities and competences. The French were among others impressed about the Danes efficiency.

In continuation of the visit at Fiskeauktion Nord - Hirtshals, John Christian Aasted could recount:
- They are very impressed about everything from the quality of the ice, which is used for the fish, to the freshness of the fish, the cleanliness at FiskeTerminal Hirtshals (the terminal among other housing the fish auction) as well as the efficiency about the auction. While the fish of the day were sold within an hour at Fiskeauktion Nord - Hirtshals, auctioning the same amount of fish would, according to the French, take up to a day to sell at a French auction.

The French delegation visited besides also Hirtshals Yard, the North Sea Research Center and Cosmos Trawl.

The Port of Hirtshals was hosting the visit. About the visit the managing director at the Port of Hirtshals, Jens Kirketerp Jensen, outlines:
- It is always interesting to welcome visitors from fishing industries which are built on other traditions. At the meeting, it was clarified that the Danish and French fishing industries are marked by some of the same processed. Nevertheless, there are still significant differences. It was clear that the French let themselves inspire by the Danish processes.
