The fourth offshore rig arrives at the Port of Hirtshals

For the second time in only two months, the Port of Hirtshals has again been chosen as base for service and upgrade of another offshore rig. Again, it is the local offshore company Safe Ocean Service that has been able to attract a rig from the Singapore-based company Teras Offshore to the port. Teras Offshore already has one offshore rig "Atlantic Esbjerg" at the Port of Hirtshals.

The new rig is called "Atlantic Amsterdam", and it is the fourth offshore rig to arrive at the Port of Hirtshals. "Atlantic Amsterdam" is one of the larger accommodation rigs and can accommodate 136 persons. The last four years, the rig has been situated in the North Sea on a long term contract with a large Danish operator.

Manager of Safe Ocean Service Chris Durhuus says:
- It is a major jackpot that Teras Offshore has decided to place "Atlantic Amsterdam" in Hirtshals. We have worked very hard to get the contract on this rig, and therefore we are very happy to welcome "Atlantic Amsterdam" to the Port of Hirtshals. If everything goes as planned, "Atlantic Amsterdam" will provide work for Service Ocean Service throughout 2016, and this will be very welcomed in an otherwise tough market, which the oil market is at the moment. A lot of intense and hard work, and negotiations with Teras Offshore through the last 6 months is the reason that we got the contract.

Safe Ocean Service expects the rig to be at the Port of Hirtshals for 6-9 months, and the company hopes to carry out a significant part of the various jobs, which need to be done in connection with service and other tasks. The Port of Hirtshals is home to a large cluster of service companies, and several of these companies have offshore experience. Therefore, they will also be able to perform some of the tasks that needs to be done on the rig.

The Port of Hirtshals' port control has played a large role in the coordination of the rig arrival. Port officer Michael Rosenlund Langballe says:
- As port control you have to manage many different tasks on a daily basis, but a rig call is one of the more unusual and interesting. It requires quite a lot to coordinate a call of this size. The Port of Hirtshals has a high level of activity, and therefore many things have to be arranged to make everything run smoothly, from movement of other vessels and adjustment to the vessel traffic in and out of the port to manning of the port vessels and assistance on the quays. We wish to provide all of our customers with the best service no matter the size of the company.

For several years, the Port of Hirtshals has had offshore as one of its business areas, and in 2011 the port welcomed the first rig for a service and an upgrade. The Port of Hirtshals' geographical location compared with Safe Ocean Service's activities and experience on the offshore market, provides new opportunities for developing the offshore business at the Port of Hirtshals.
