Port day for all and hand out of the Port of Hirtshals' sponsorship

Monday 9 December 2013, the Port of Hirtshals' annual ?Port day for all" was held at the North Sea Research Park in Hirtshals. At the meeting, the port informed about the current development and future plans, and most importantly, the port's annual sponsorship was handed out.

The main subject this year was the port's future land expansion of approximately 250,000 m², which is about one third of the port's current area. The expansion will contain new land areas for waiting areas, maritime service industry, fish processing, and sediment areas. Furthermore, the port is working on the establishment of a minor LNG terminal for bunkering of Fjord Line's new LNG ferries.

The port also informed about the projects concerning a rail freight terminal between the port and Hirtshals Transport Centre, a new road connection between the North Sea Terminal and motorway E39, and a brand new project about the installation of four wind turbines at the port's new land area. The wind turbines are to help finance the new port expansion, and is to have a locally rooted ownership.

Finally, the Port of Hirtshals' annual sponsorship was handed out. This year, the sponsorship was split into three. DKK 5,000 was given to Fiskekrogen, DKK 10,000 was given to Hjoerring IF Ungdom and DKK 10,000 was given to the table tennis club B75. Each year, Fiskekrogen sells home cooked fish dishes from the museum garden and the profit goes to the residents of the care home Lynggaarden - their funds will be used for a new smoker. The funds for Hjoerring IF Ungdom will be used to develop the skills of the players of the soccer clubs children and youth department, and the funds for B75 will be used on one Scandinavia's largest table tennis events with 400-600 players.

The Port of Hirtshals is a growing business area with a great significance for both the local area and Hjoerring Municipality. The purpose of ?Port day for all" is to give the citizens of HJoerring Municipality an opportunity to hear more about the port and to ask questions to the people behind the day-to-day running of the port. Again this year, people showed great interest in the port and its current development and future plans.
